His wife said that when he became ill, he took up bird-watching and was concerned when he was hospitalized that "somebody had to feed his birds." In addition to his wife of 28 years and his son, Mr. Minshall is survived by his mother and stepfather, Eleanor and Bud Tabor; a sister; and a brother. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m.

Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, De-Kalb Pike, Gwynedd. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Zachary R. Minshall Education Fund, Harleysville National Bank, Box 428, Spring House, Pa.

19477. gan "Life's short, play hard." Raised in Parkside in Delaware County, Mr. Minshall was a graduate of Sun Valley High School in Aston. While earning a bachelor's degree from Temple University, he was a part-time police officer in Parkside and was later a police officer in Aston. After graduating from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, he was a sergeant in charge of the homicide unit with the Delaware County criminal investigation division for 10 years.

He then became program manager and security manager for General Electric in Valley Forge. Until November, he was an environmental health and safety specialist for Lockheed Martin Corp. in Valley Forge. Mr. Minshall had a master's degree in public safety and environment from St.

Joseph's University and was a graduate of the FBI Academy. Philadelphia. Memorial donations may be made to the Paley Day Care Center, 2199 Strahle Philadelphia 19152. Martin M.Elfant Business owner, 88 Martin M. Elfant, 88, of Philadelphia, retired owner of Elfant Wissahickon Realtors, died Friday of a stroke at Keystone House, a hospice in Wyndmoor.

Raised in South Philadelphia by Russian Jewish immigrants, Mr. Elfant graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1931. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and attended law school at Penn. Before serving in the Army Quartermaster's Corps during World War II, he was an auditor for the Pennsylvania tax bureau and was an accountant for the Social Security Administration. After his discharge in 1946, he founded Martin M.

Elfant Realty, now Elfant Wissahickon Realtors, in Philadelphia. The company specialized in real-estate sales and property management in Northwest Philadelphia and the suburbs. He also established Direct Mortgage Loan Co. He retired in the mid-1970s. Before moving to Northeast Philadelphia, Mr.

Elfant had lived for many years in Wyndmoor. He was a member of Temple Beth Tikveh in Erdenheim and the Klein Branch of the Jewish Community Center in Philadelphia. An enthusiastic athlete, he had been a member of his high school boxing team and played tennis and volleyball into his 80s. His wife of 28 years, Sylvia Flick Elfant, died in 1970. He is survived by daughters Kay, Ina Asher and Janet Keogh; son, Robert; a sister; 10 grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Rosalind Wallach.

A funeral service was yesterday at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael Sacks Funeral Home in Philadelphia. Burial was in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Collingdale. Minshall, 53, of Lower Gwynedd, a former Delaware County law-enforcement officer and a health and safety specialist, died of multiple myeloma Friday at Fox Chase Cancer Center. His cancer was diagnosed in 1993 when his son, Zachary, was 18 months old. "The doctors gave him 18 months to live, but he was determined he was going to help raise our son," said his wife, Sabine Wolters Minshall. She said he had a bone-marrow transplant in 1994 and "was willing to enroll in every clinical trial we could find." "He was an inspiration," she said. "He kept his sense of humor.

He was one of the funniest people I know." She said her husband wouldn't wear a hospital gown, preferring shorts and his favorite T-shirt printed with the slo In the Region Gerald J. Dougherty Retired truck driver, 66 Gerald "Jerry" J. Dougherty, 66, of East Lansdowne, a retired truck driver and former Sun Ship supervisor died Friday of cancer at his home. A lifelong resident of East Lansdowne, Mr. Dougherty joined the Army as a teenager and served in Turkey and Germany.

After his discharge in the late 1950s, he worked for Sun Ship in Chester. He was a supervisor at Sun when the shipyard closed in 1977. He then drove tractor-trailers for Interstate Brands Corp. in Philadelphia until retiring last year. In 1958, Mr.

Dougherty married Edith Rae. She died in 1997. For the last five years, he competed as a stock-car racer at tracks in Delaware. He is survived by sons Shawn and Mark; daughter Erin; his mother, Dorothy Kane Dougherty; a sister; two brothers; and six grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m.

today at St. Cyril of Alexandria Roman Catholic Church, 153 Penn East Lansdowne, Pa. 19050. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Delaware County Hospice, 5030 State Suite 3001, Drexel Hill, Pa. 19026. Sidney W. Rappeport Textile manufacturer, 92 Sidney W. Rappeport, 92, of Elkins Park, a retired textile industry manufacturer, died of heart failure Saturday at his home.

Mr. Rappeport was raised in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. For many years he was employed in textile manufacturing in Philadelphia and was an executive for Coat Craft, a manufacturer of children's coats for 20 years before retiring in the early 1980s. For more than a decade, he sold computer-related products for J.T.C. Corp.

in Philadelphia before retiring for a second time in the 1990s. Mr. Rappeport enjoyed golf and was a member of the Ashbourne and Philmont Country Clubs. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Esther Deutser Savitz; a daughter, Bunny Shore; two sisters; and three grandchildren. A graveside service was yesterday at Har Nebo Cemetery in ROSENFELD Aug.

In 1949, she married her college sweetheart, Clyde Arthur Vadner. The couple moved to the Main Line in 1967 when he became vice president of sales and marketing for Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He was chief operating officer of the company when he retired in the late 1980s. Mrs. Vadner was a former Girl Scout leader.

For many years, she and her husband were active in the youth group at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Malvern. Her daughter, Andrea Vadner, said: "She was a trooper. We went camping in tents when we were growing up." Though she no longer camped, Mrs. Vadner enjoyed traveling, her daughter said, and had visited the 50 states and China. In addition to her husband and daughter Andrea, she is survived by daughters Christine and Hilary; son, Greg; two brothers; and two grandchildren.
