Attorney Fails In Trial Plea George Hewlett, 71 year old San Franeisco attorney, yester day lost an attempt in the State district court of appeal to avoid prosecution on a grand theft chares involving $46,460 of a former client's lunds.

The court rejected his plea that the indictment, accusing him of misappropriating funds from the estate of George A. Kromrey, a retired electrical draftsman, Has faulty. Kromrey left his estate to his nurse, Mrs. Amanda M. McDonald of 758 Clayton Street.

Hewlett was indicted after Mrs. McDonald said she had been unable to collect the legacy. Hewlett avers Kromrey gave him the money as his agent in numerous business transactions. Robinson Vetoes Salary Ordinance Mayor Robinson yesterday ve toed the annual salary ordinance which was voided by the defeat of Proposition I at Tuesday's elec tion. The ordinance contained sal ary rates that included the 000 in pay raises which the people failed to approve.

Carpenter Pay Raise AVL carpenter negotiators and representatives of nine contract ing firms late yesterday reached a tentative agreement on a new contract covering a 10 cents hourly wage increase for some 14,000 Bay area carpenters. Dave Ryan, secretary of the Bay Counties District Council of Carpenters, said the offer would be submitted to the union membership for ratification some time next week.

Other terms of the new pact were not disclosed. Carpenters at present are re ceiving $2.22 an hour. The union had originally demanded a retro active pay raise of 27 cents an hour and restoration of a compulsory arbitration provision in the new contract.
