As well as researching accommodation and planning your transport to and from the airport, you’ll need to read up on the policies and inclusions of your chosen airline to make sure there are no nasty surprises when you arrive at the airport. To make life easier for you, here’s a quick guide to everything you’ll need to know about your airline if you’re planning a domestic flight out of Sydney Airport.
All information is based on the most basic fare type. If you’ve purchased a premium fare, your inclusions will vary.
Jetstar
Baggage information
Carry on: Standard fares come with a total carry on allowance of 7kgs, which can include one main item, to be stored in the overhead locker and one small item which must fit under the seat in front of you.
Checked baggage: No checked baggage is included in the Economy Starter fare, so if you need checked baggage make sure you’ve booked an add-on bundle, or you can simply purchase the extra baggage you need before your flight here.
Baby/young child allowance: If you’re travelling with a young child, you can bring baby items including prams, portable cots, high chairs and approved car seats for no extra cost.
Arriving at the airport
Terminal information: Domestic Jetstar flights depart from Sydney Airport terminal T2, except for flights numbered between JQ1 and JQ70, which depart from international terminal T1. These flights have the same check-in requirements as international flights, so make sure you arrive earlier for check-in and bring photo ID.
Check in: You can check-in online, at an airport kiosk or at an airport desk. For domestic flights, check-in and bag drop close 30 minutes before departure.
In-flight inclusions
Food is not included in standard fares but can be purchased on-board.

Qantas
Baggage information
Carry on: For domestic flights, standard fares include up to two pieces of carry on, up to a total of 14kgs with the heaviest piece weighing no more than 10kgs.
Checked baggage: Standard domestic fares include one piece of checked baggage up to 23kgs.
Baby/young child allowance: If you’re travelling with a young child, you can bring three baby items including include a collapsible pram, travel cot, car seat or baby capsule at no extra cost.
Arriving at the airport
Terminal information: Domestic Qantas flights depart from Sydney Airport terminal T3.
Check in: You can check-in online, with the Qantas app, or at the airport. For domestic flights, check-in and bag drop close 30 minutes before departure.
In-flight inclusions
In-flight entertainment, food and non-alcoholic drinks are free standard inclusions on Qantas domestic flights.

Terminal information: Domestic Virgin flights depart from Sydney Airport terminal T2.
Check in: You can check-in online, at the airport or using your Amazon Alexa. For domestic flights, online check-in and bag drop closes 45 minutes before departure and airport check-in and bag drop close 30 minutes before departure.
