1. D.
Due to the larger size of hydrated Li  ion conductivity decreases.
2. A
As metallic character of element attached to oxygen atom increases, the difference
between the electronegativity values of element and oxygen increases and thus basic
character of oxides increases and vice versa, Hence, the increasing correct order of
basic nature is Al2O3  MgO  Na2O  K2O

The solubility of the alkali metal carbonates increases down the group from Li to Cs.
This is because of the fact that down the group with increasing size of cation the
lattice energy as well as hydration energy also decrease but the change in lattice
energy is more as compare to that of hydration energy. lithium hydrogen carbonate is
not obtained in the solid form while all other elements form solid hydrogen
carbonates.

36. A rod of length l is pivoted about an end. Find the moment of inertia of the rod about
this axis if the linear mass density of rod varies as   ax 2  b kg / m
As mass of the rod varies with its length, here we cannot use the expression
Ml 2
.which is only used for uniformly distributed mass along the length of rod pivoted
3
at an end. In this case we consider an elemental length dx from the axis at a distance
x.Let its mass be dm ,where
dm   dx

  ax 2  b  dx

During rotation of rod this dm revolves in a circle of radius x, hence its moment of
inertia dl is given as
dl  dmx 2

The moment of inertia of the whole rod is given by integrating the above expression

We have

Here, v is the velocity of CM of ring after impact. Solving the above equation, we

Linear impulse during impact

Writing the equation (about CM)

Angular impulse = Change in angular momentum We have,

2 2 2 0.5

Solving this equation comes out to be positive or anti-clockwise. So just after

collision rightwards slipping is taking place. Hence, friction is leftwards. Therefore,

Now, linear impulse on CM

Similarly, angular impulse about AB = change in angular momentum about AB
Angular impulse = Linear impulse
Perpendicular distance of impulse from AB
Hence, 6 0.5 m I AB 1
(Initial angular velocity = 1 rad/s)

or 3 1.2 30r 2 1 …………(ii)

Solving Eqs. (i) and (ii) for r, we get

r = 0.4 m and r = 0.1 m
But at r = 0.4 m, comes out to be negative (-0.5 rad/s)
Which is not acceptable. Therefore,
(a) r = distance of CM from AB = 0.1m
(b) Substituting r = 0.1m in Eq. (i), we get = 1 rad/s ie, the angular velocity with
which sheet comes back after the first impact is 1 rad/s.
(c) Since, the sheet returns with same angular velocity of 1 rad/s, the sheet will never
come to rest.

Paragraph for Questions 29 and 30
Cyclohexane exist as two chair conformations in rapid equilibrium at room
temperature. Each carbon atom on a cyclohexane ring has one axial and one equatorial
hydrogen. Ring flipping converts axial H’s to equatorial H’s and vice-versa.

In substituted cyclohexane, groups larger than hydrogen are more stable in the
equatorial position. The cis isomers has two groups on the same side of the ring, either
both up or both down. The trans isomer has two groups on opposite side of the ring,
one up and one down.

Paragraph for Questions 33 and 34

Stereoisomers, which can be interconverted simply by rotation about sigma bonds, are
conformational isomers. While those, which can be converted only by breaking and
remaking of bonds and not simply by rotation, are called configurational isomers.
The angle between C – C and C – H bonds on adjacent carbon atoms in any
conformation is called dihedral angle. The cyclic compounds most commonly found in
nature containing six membered rings can exist in a conformation that is almost
completely free of strain. The most stable conformation of cyclohexane is chair form.
According to Bayer strain theory, the greater is the deviation from the normal
tetrahedral angle, greater is the angle strain or torsional strain and hence lesser is the
stability of the cycloalkane.
33. Dihedral angle between two methyl groups of n-butane in the gauche and anti forms

A) 600, 00 B) 600 and 1800 C) 00, 600 D) 1800, 600

Paragraph for Questions 35 and 36
Those stereoisomers are called configurational isomers if they differ in spatial
arrangement of atom or group and are not interconvertible without cleaving a bond.
Geometrical isomerism arises due to restricted rotation about a bond or centre. The
number of G.I. is 2n where n = number of double bonds or rings or both. In some cases
the number of G.I. is less than 2n , where either side nomenclature will be possible.

SECTION - III
(MATRIX MATCHING ANSWER TYPE)
This section contains 2 questions. Each question has four statements (A, B, C and D) given in Column I and four statements (P, Q, R
and S) in Column II. Any given statement in Column I can have correct matching with ONE or MORE statement(s) given in Column II.
For example, if for a given question, statement B matches with the statements given in Q and R, then for the particular question
darken the bubbles corresponding to Q and R in the OMR sheet. For each correct matching will be awarded +2 marks ONLY and
0 if not attempted and -1 in all other cases.
