Dr. Glen Crawford receives HCA Award of Distinction

PORSTMOUTH - Glen Crawford, M.D., of Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine was awarded with the Frist Award in the Physician Category, a 2015 Award of Distinction presented by the Hospital Corporation of America.

An annual celebration for the past 43 years, the Frist Awards showcase HCA’s remarkable physicians, employees, and volunteers at the local, divisional, and national levels. Dr. Crawford earned his place among this group through his extensive humanitarian work across not only the Seacoast, but also several countries overseas.

An active member of the Health Volunteers Overseas for 30 years with his wife Suzanne, Dr. Crawford has dedicated himself to improving healthcare in developing countries.

From beginning a teaching program for African physicians, to organizing the collection and shipment of used medical equipment to Haitian hospitals, volunteer work is a way of life for the board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. Carrying on these values, the couple’s son Matt inspired the idea for a soccer program through the Greater Newburyport/Bura Alliance to collect balls, uniforms and certificates for children in Bura, Kenya.

When not busy volunteering, Dr. Crawford is helping patients get back to doing what they love in the Seacoast. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement, arthritis treatment, and trauma and sports injuries. NECC Rad Tech student earns national scholarship

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Emily Knox, a student in the Radiologic Technology Program at Northern Essex Community College and a resident of Stratham, has received the $2,500 Jerman-Cahoon Scholarship awarded by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists Foundation.

Knox was one of six recipients chosen nationally by the committee and the sole recipient from a Massachusetts program.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in entry-level radiology-related programs and demonstrate leadership skills, academic prowess, and financial need.

In addition to accepting a scholarship award, which will help defer future tuition costs, Knox was invited to participate in the ASRT’s Student Leadership Development Program for aspiring radiologists. The program provides Knox and other college students the opportunity to hone critical networking skills and learn from national leaders of the radiological sciences field. In June, she attended the ASRT Educational Symposium in Albuquerque to meet other student awardees and radiation therapy professionals and took part in the foundation’s Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting.

The ASRT Edward Jerman and John Cahoon award was made possible by support from the ASRT Foundation Patrons and the ASRT.
