Reigning champions Glasgow City are now seven points behind ScottishPower Women's Premier League leaders Rangers.
City came close in the opening minutes as Jenna Fife had to get low to save a Fiona Brown free kick, but things would quickly turn sour for the visitors as Brown had to be replaced by Lisa Forrest through injury.
Things continued to spiral as Kinga Kozak clipped Rachel Rowe inside the area, making the referee point to the spot. Rio Hardy made no mistake in converting, opening the scoring for Rangers.
City got back on level terms quickly as Lauren Davidson was played through by Emily Whelan and slotted it past the goalkeeper.
With everything to play for in the second half, both sides came out fighting. It only took until the 54th minute for Lizzie Arnot to put a long-range strike into the top corner of the City net.
Chelsea Cornet scored Rangers' third as she turned in a corner. Although Lee Gibson made a fantastic save to deny Hardy earlier, Mia McAulay eventually grabbed a fourth for the hosts.
The Gers will look to defend their lead at the top of the table on Wednesday as they take on Hearts in Edinburgh. Glasgow City return to Petershill Park as they face Partick Thistle.
Celtic put in a five-star performance at Partick Thistle to ensure that they stay just a point behind Rangers.
Caitlin Hayes opened the scoring as a cross from Natalie Ross was fired home by the Irish defender.
Thistle almost responded immediately as Imogen Longcake's volley just went wide, but Celtic piled on the pressure as Natasha Flint came close to bagging a second for her side.
She eventually did as a deflected ball fell to her feet, allowing her to find the back of the net with relative ease.
It quickly became three for the visitors as Murphy Agnew slid it in from close range.
Rounding off a good first half, Amy Gallacher played in Flint, who made no mistake with her composed finish.
Kit Loferski replaced the Liverpool loanee in the second half and she almost made an immediate impact as she had the ball in the back of the net. The referee ruled it out as Loferski had fouled a Thistle defender, but Celtic fought hard for a fifth.
It eventually came as Agnew added another to her tally for the afternoon, sending a brilliant volley flying into the top corner.
Celtic are back in title race action on Wednesday, as they host Hibs at the Excelsior Stadium. It's a return to familiar surroundings for Thistle, albeit as the away side, as they take on Glasgow City at Petershill Park.
Hearts took the bragging rights in an exciting Edinburgh derby as they emerged victorious against Hibernian.
Jessica Husband set up Kathleen McGovern as she headed in an early opener for the hosts but shortly after, the goalscorer was given a straight red card for a challenge on Naomi Powell.
Despite having the numerical advantage, Hibs couldn't keep the Jambos at bay and Megan Bell found the second from a free kick.
Hearts solidify their position in fourth as they move six points clear of their Edinburgh rivals.
Next up, Hearts host Rangers on Wednesday while Hibs face Celtic at the Excelsior Stadium.
Montrose secured three points in Edinburgh thanks to goals from Claire Delworth and Jade McLaren.
In the second half, Montrose found the breakthrough with Delworth finding the back of the net.
McLaren doubled their advantage in the 78th minute but Spartans had a chance to get themselves back in the game when the referee pointed to the spot. To their disappointment, Lauren Perry saved the penalty to prevent a possible comeback.
Becky Galbraith did eventually pull one back for the home side in the 90th minute, but it wasn't enough.
Montrose move 12 points clear of the relegation zone while Spartans remain six points clear thanks to defeats for the bottom two sides.
Next up, Montrose host Aberdeen on Wednesday while Spartans host Motherwell on the same day.
Despite going behind early on, Aberdeen fought back to beat Hamilton Accies thanks to a Bayley Hutchison brace.
The visitors opened the scoring with just a few minutes on the clock as Melissa Reid smashed home for Accies.
Aberdeen did respond quickly as Francesca Ogilvie rounded off a counter-attack, however, Accies were ahead again before the break as Lauren Kerr found Josi Giard who got the visitors' second.
In the second-half, captain Hutchison equalised for the Dons and got her second to fire the hosts ahead.
With two minutes to go, it got worse for Hamilton Accies as Kirstie McIntosh was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Aberdeen take a trip to Links Park to face Montrose on Wednesday while Hamilton Accies host Dundee United.
An 83rd-minute goal from Laura Berry secured victory for Motherwell at Fir Park.
The game sparked to life in the second half when Morgan Cross found the breakthrough for the hosts with an hour gone.
Berry almost doubled their advantage as her shot just missed the target and it looked as if that may come back to haunt them as Georgie Robb equalised for United in the 80th minute.
However, there was an immediate response from the hosts as Berry this time found the net to secure victory.
On Wednesday, Motherwell visit the capital to take on Spartans while Dundee United are away to Hamilton Accies.
