Perception In The Bluest Eye
Perception is the process of selectively choosing and assigning meaning to information. The set of
perceptions people own are a result of the selection, organization and interpretation of information. In
Toni Morrison s novel The Bluest Eye, the author effectively reveals the girl as an extremely
developed character, despite her age. Morrison introduces the young girl as confident, innocent, and
most importantly, familiar and comfortable with her identity and environment. Throughout the
excerpt, utilizing literary techniques, Morrison successfully demonstrates a change in the girl s
perceptions of herself and the world as she becomes self conscious of her skin color and feels new
uncomfortable feelings of shame and anger. Morrison opens by ... Show more content on

Meat and Sundries Store, the mood of the story changes as all of a sudden Pecola feels peal of
anticipation unsettles her stomach. The first indication that Pecola sees is Mr. Yacobowski s eyes.
They almost seem to have difficulty focusing on her and more importantly, have an absence of human
recognition. This hyperbole, and moment is when Pecola realizes that people don t all think the same,
but all have their own perceptions. This hyperbole emphasizes the fact that Mr. Yacobowski does not
respect Pecola and is dehumanizing her. Mr. Yacobowski is unable to look past her blackness which is
static and dread. Pecola cannot escape the preconceived notions and stereotypes associated with her
skin color, despite her dynamic and emotional personality. Furthermore, the scene when Mr.
Yacobowski could not see Pecola s point of view and see her view literally and metaphorically
demonstrated the difference between the two. While he could literally not see what she was pointing
at, he figuratively also could not see from her point of view as he was a white immigrant man while
Pecola is a child, black, and a girl. This is the first example of how cultural norms and values begin to
shape Pecola s perception of both herself and her world. Pecola s perceptions of herself and her world
begins to change; distorted and twisted as she begins to become aware and understand the society she
lived in and how she was perceived by

Eventually, since vehicle industry has become a main industry in Turkey, there must be good
performance from the whole industry chain that CG would have a lot of competitors and hard to enter
the market If it choose greenfield or acquisition. 3.2 On the other hand, less risk means CG would lose
profits when choosing joint venture mode. In addition, management for mixing two companies can

In the article When the Gender Boxes Don t Fit by Ericka Sokolower Shain I found myself a little
disagreed. I am all about equality for all, and everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin. I
agree with the writer that gender doesn t have to be so black and white (Sokolower Shain, 2009, pg.

their side, and it was something I would support, gender neutral bathrooms. But then I thought about
myself, I won t feel comfortable about entering a bathroom with men in there. I don t know if that
messes with my beliefs on equality but the thought of it did make me uncomfortable. I think if I was

NCAAArgument Essay
It s shaping up to be a trying year for the NCAA as two former athletes have come forward in the past
week and filed a class action lawsuit against them for academic fraud in its members schools athletic
programs. While some think this couldn t get worse, from the numerous unacknowledged complaints
from over the last century, a large number of the student athletes on the receiving end of less than
stellar educations were African American student athletes especially in revenue producing sports like
basketball and football.
The two athletes that have come to the front line of this debacle are former University of North
Carolina (UNC) football player, Devon Ramsay and basketball player Rashanda McCants. If that last
name sounds familiar, it should she s the sister of the former men s basketball star Rashad McCants of
the Tar Heels and was drafted 14th overall his first NBA by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Mr.
McCants stands by his sister s lawsuit and is even testifying against not only the NCAA, but also his
alma mater. This isn t the first time Mr. McCants has put up a red flag against his old college; in early
June of 2014 he participated in an interview where he stated that he took bogus classes and had tutors

performing better then expected and was growing. From 2008 to 2010, U.S GDP is projected at 14.3

America s top entrepreneurial think tank, the Kauffman Foundation, explain in a interview with the
author:
The single most important contributor to a nation s economic growth is the number of startups that
grow to a billion dollars in revenue within 20 years.

we can also see from the table that as fiscal stimulus was implemented during the period, government
debt increases. A substainable fiscal policy requires the debt to not increase relatively to the increment
of GDP. Therefore, government have to increase the taxes and decrease their spending in order to
decrease their public debts.
From the article, we can conclude the weakness in fiscal policy. There is no doubt that fiscal policy do

Monetary policy, is how government manage their money supply to steer the economy . Government

Design Of A Sustainable Design
What we know today as sustainable architectural design began in the early 20th century; born and
evolved from principles and theories of architects in addition to physical devices all which precursor
those in today sustainable architecture. These premature design elements, and theories are visible in
works such as Le Corbusier s early 20th century, Villa Savoye; and Alvar
Aalto s mid 20th century, Villa Mairea. Reviewing and rereading these building s physical designs and

Leda And The Swan Yeats Summary
Tegan Zankl

15 February 2018
W. B. Yeats: Leda and the Swan
In the poem Leda and the Swan , William Butler Yeats retells the story of the Greek god Zeus taking
on the body of a swan to rape an innocent mortal, Leda. Yeats was mesmerized by the unique
relationships between mortals and gods in ancient stories; this is what triggers his urge to write a poem
about this tale. Yeats includes many references to ancient Greek mythology. He expects readers to
know the background on this Greek history when reading through the poem to get a full
understanding. He also uses his words to make a strong impact on the readers minds. The themes in
this poem are very diverse, but the ones of beastiality, wordplay and Greek history are most effective.
The language in the text creates an intense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yeats assumes that the readers know about the Greek myth of Zeus, sky and weather god, taking the
form of a swan to violate Leda, Aetolian princess who later becomes a famous Spartan Queen. The
opening lines start off presumably in Leda s perspective when he states, A sudden blow (Yeats 1),
meaning that the Swan harshly approaches Leda and knocks her off her feet. We now can assume that
the swan is larger than normal for it to have such extreme power to induce a great deal of force onto
an unexpecting woman. In line 4, He (Yeats 4) is written for the first time so readers now know that
the swan is of male nature; this explains the large size and strength of the swan. In the following
stanza, through the first line Yeats chooses the word vague (Yeats 5) to describe how Leda is so
terrified and disoriented when being violated by the swan. This can lead the reader to wonder if Leda
could have even prevented the violation? The answer is clear, it would be incredibly absurd that she
could have. When Yeats asks, And how can body (Yeats 7), he is

Upton Sinclair s A Matter Of The Stomach
A Matter of the Stomach The Jungle missed its mark. According to Upton Sinclair, he aimed at the
public s heart, but by accident he hit it in the stomach. The societal and governmental reforms called
for in The Jungle were for an improvement in workers conditions, adjustment in the corrupt systems
of law enforcement and the legal systems, and for either a socialist revolution or the dismantling of
capitalism; however, despite Sinclair s intentions, he was largely unsuccessful in bringing any of these
changes up to the priority of the public. The novel follows the story of Jurgis Rudkus, a Lithuanian
immigrant who came to America with his fiancé and her relatives in hope of obtaining a life of success
and wealth with the woman he loved. He soon found that it was very difficult to support a large family
with his salary as a shoveler of guts, making a meager seventeen and a half cents an hour as he worked
from seven in the morning until seven at night. There was poor sanitation at the meatpacking factory,
as workers swarmed around coughing up germs laden with tuberculosis and weren t provided with
adequate means for relieving themselves or cleansing their hands. ... Show more content on

The point of making Jurgis struggle so painful was so that Sinclair could point out the flaws of
capitalism and the harm that the monopolies company s like Durham and Brown had on the working
class. Sinclair created the character, a Polish man Ostrinski, so that socialism and its policies could be
unabashedly explained to the public, not just to Jurgis. The more subtle mentioning of the essentially
socialist newspaper Appeal to Reason was a less direct push towards encouraging a new way of order
in America. Yet both the subliminal and not so subliminal messages of the novel were largely ignored
or forgotten as the public was far more concerned with the disgusting setting in which their meat was

Idle No More Native People Challenge Summary
Fahad Alabrahim Response # 4: Review The common denominator of the five articles we read this
week was the Indigenous activism against colonialism. In Winona Laduke s article, Idle No More:
Native People Challenge, the author tackles the environmental problems caused by most Canadian
government. Activist and Indigenous chief of Attawapiskat Theresa Spence decided to go a hunger
strike protesting. Spence and her movement of Idle No More drew attention to some sad conditions in
Native reserves and communities (LaDuke, Par 1). The use of social media such as Facebook and
Twitter have helped the movement to spread their message more efficiently because communities such
as Attawapiskat and Kashachewan are remote communities that have received very little attention due
to lack of information (LaDuke, Par 28). In the article, Idle No More: what do we want and where are
we headed?, one of the organizers and spokespersons of the movement has accepted to answer
questions related to the beginning of the movement and its purposes (Palmater, Par 1). The spokesman
said that the movement noticed an assimilation agenda concocted by the Conservative government.

The Impact Of Sound On The World Of Sound Cinema
Sound is obviously an essential part of cinema, and most couldn t imagine watching any sort of
entertainment without sound. Although how did sounds start and what were some major advancements
in the world of sound cinema? The introduction of sound to cinema began by a process known as
Phonofilm, created by a man named Lee de Forest and Theodore Case in 1923. The Phonofilm, which
recorded synchronized sound directly onto film, was used to record a variety of entertainment
including vaudeville acts, musical numbers, political speeches and opera singers. Unfortunately, this
sound film didn t last long because it was overshadowed by the sound on disc, later named the
Vitaphone.
The Vitaphone was developed by Western Electrics Bell Laboratories and quickly acquired by Warner
Bros Company in April of 1925. The Warner Brothers film Don Juan, directed by Alan Crosland,
which utilized the first system with synchronized music score and sound effects, first showcased the
Vitaphone. Using the Vitaphone, Warner Brothers went on to produce over 100 short films during the
mid 1920 s. In 1927, The Jazz Singer was released, which was essentially a silent picture with
Vitaphone score and the occasional episodes of synchronized singing and speech. Although the
Vitaphone seemed like a revolutionary concept opening a whole new market of cinema, it became
apparent that recording on film would be much more convenient.
Sound on disk had been in the tweaking process throughout the early

Double In Gothic Literature Analysis
In literary criticism, the term double is defined as literary device that is used to directly compare, and
contrast, the familiar with the strange. Often, doubles are used in pieces of literature to examine
character traits, both positive and negative, as they are easier to identify and analyze when presented
in two different lights. Another, perhaps more identifiable, word for double is doppelganger. The word
doppelganger means look alike, or more literally, double walker. Doubles are meant to bear striking
physical similarities, if they do not look exactly identical. Often meeting one s double brings about a
certain realization of self. Doubles are often prevalent in gothic literature, where strangeness and
freakishness are two defining characteristics of the genre. These two adjectives can also, very neatly,

The mere thought of having a physical double can be jarring or shocking. Meeting that double is
another idea all together. It is not something that most of us can fathom. However, it is the strangeness
or implausibility of this idea that makes it so intriguing. Something that so many are eager to play
with, especially in modern media. While the gothic genre has lost popularity in recent years, mostly
due to the fact its popularity stemmed from the ease in which it gave authors to socially criticize the
Victorian government, that does not mean the idea of the double has gone obsolete. In fact, doubleness
has gained a considerable amount of popularity in modern media. Television shows like Orphan
Black, The Vampire Diaries, Ringer, and many more focus primarily on the idea of doubleness and
what it means for the characters. The consequences of having a double and the realization of self it
brings about are at the forefront of the plots for these television shows and many more. This essay will
focus on doubleness in popular media, particularly in terms of the quote from the Conrad piece, The

The Day Dreamers
The Day Dreamers Have you ever wondered why so many students at City High are sluggish and
lethargic? Are they just lazy and unmotivated? No, most of them probably suffer from lack of sleep,
caused by biological clocks that are set to a different schedule than their classes. Teenagers have a
physiological need to stay up later and sleep longer than pre adolescents, yet the daily schedule of the
school runs oblivious to this. At City High students usually have to get up a little before 6:30, yet it is
only natural for teenagers to get up later in the mornings. According to Mark Mahowald, MD, director
of the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center, (Adolescents ) biological clocks program them to
go to sleep late too late to get an adequate amount of sleep before the next school day begins (qtd. In
Lamberg). Because he believes that most high schools open too early, he is leading a campaign to
move the start of high school to 9 a.m. in Minneapolis. Puberty causes teenagers to go to sleep an hour
later than when they were younger, according to Dr. Mary Caraskadon, director of chronobiology and
sleep research at Bradlet Hospital in Rhode Island (Lamberg). In contrast to this law of nature, U 32
students have to go to school about an hour earlier than elementary school students in the same school
district. Because of her research, Dr. Caraskadon agrees with Dr. Mahowald s opinions: The practice
of ringing the opening bell earlier in high school than

The Effects Of Fairy Tales
When thinking about fairy tales many of us, if not all of us, revert back to childhood. When we were
children some of the best memories are those of the movies we used to watch; Cinderella, Sleeping
Beauty, Snow White, The Frog Prince, things of those sorts. What many of us do not know is that fairy
tales go back farther than that of Disney s productions. In this course, we have been learning about
different views of fairy tales. One of the views that we have focused a lot on is told by Bruno
Bettelheim in his book, The Uses of Enchantment. In his eyes fairy tales have the most effect on
children and the way children grow up. The second view that we have learned about is J.R.R Tolkien s
in his essay, On Fairy Stories . Tolkien claims that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tolkien first states that recovery includes return and renewal of health. [Recovery] is a re gaining
regaining of a clear view. (Tolkien, J.R.R (1947 ed.) p.19) By this Tolkien means that recovery is not
seeing the world for what it is but rediscovery of the banal, of the day to day world. Recovery is
seeing things in a different light, and that is what fairy tales help to do. Fairy tales take the everyday
world that we live and paint them in a light that allows us to offset what is going on in our world
today, or to restore the visions that we have of our lives. He even relates this theory of recovery to
himself in the quote For the story maker who allows himself to be free with Nature can be her lover
not her slave. It was in fairy stories that I first divined the potency of the words, and the wonder of the
things, such as stone, and wood, and iron; tree and grass; house and fire; bread and wine. (Tolkien,
J.R.R (1947 ed.) p.20). I agree strongly with this in the sense that without these stories of fantasy how
are we ever going to recover and see our world as great again with all the bad that happens. Children
are not to be concerned with the horrors of the world as adults

The Delegation is Here
Ms Loren stood in front of a single elevator illustrating an out of service sign. Ms Loren glanced at the
notice and questioned the Bellman, It s not working? as she pointed to the elevator. No, Ma am. It has
not operated in years. Parts are impossible to find. Everyone takes the stairs. Good exercise, retorted
the Bellman. Coach Russell walked in front of Ms Loren, and took the first step up to address the
students, Okay, everyone. Looks like we got some climbing to do. Thankfully, we re all on the third
floor. Coach Russell begun heading their up towards the guest rooms. Students, you heard Coach
Russell, Ms Loren addressed with a hint of spite saying Coach Russell. She had been with Minister
Mike longer than him, yet Coach Russell took control of most situations. Coach even blocked her
from the students view. This was not tolerable in her book. Ms Loren approached the stairs with vigor.
Ms Loren wanted a word with him away from the others. Giselle, Let s not delay the Ambassador, said
Minister Mike to his wife as Giselle stayed behind with Daniel at the front desk. Michael, I want to get
a list of the student s rooms, and Daniel wants to make sure the billing is in order, replied Giselle.

Essay on The Charismatic Gifts
THE CHARISMATIC GIFTS: THEIR USE, FUNCTION,AND CONTINUITY
Joseph Oliveri
Bible 364 Acts
August 16, 2013
Introduction Their is much debate surrounding the use of the charismatic gifts in Acts. Many questions
arise about how to use such gifts, and whether or not they can be used today in the first place. The
debate regarding the continuation and the cessation of the spiritual gifts, the meaning of which we will
clarify in a moment, is a relatively modern one. Although we read about the outpouring of the Holy
Spirit at Pentecost in Acts, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the early church of the New Testament,
history is more or less silent on this issue. It was not until the early ... Show more content on

First, he grounds the use of all the gifts in the Lordship of Jesus Christ ( Therefore... no one speaking
in the Spirit... 1 Cor. 1:3). Here, it is seen that the gift and gifts of the Spirit serve as the external
manifestation of the triumph and enthronement of Christ. 4 Furthermore, in 1 Cor. 1:7 11, the point is
made that the exercise of any gift of the Spirit is the ministry of the word given to God s people, and
that the ministry of God s revelatory word is central to the use of all other gifts... they give expression
to that word in various ways. 5 This is why, in an eclectic grouping of the various giftings (found in 1
Cor. 12:8 11, 1 Cor. 12:28, Rom. 12:6 8, Eph. 4:11, and 1 Pet. 4:11), the work of the ministry of the
word of God is paramount, that is, the revelatory word through the apostle and prophet is
foundational, while all else is informed by and flows from this. 6 Second, Paul grounds the use of the
gifts in love. The reflection of the manifestations of these gifts were meant to emphasize God s grace,
that is, the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost as a sign of the new covenant for believers. This,
of course, was a fulfillment of the Prophecy of Joel ( Joel 2:28 32; cf. Acts 2:17 18). Peter understood
the prophesying to which Joel referred to be fulfilled by that speaking of tongues produced by the
Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Thus, Peter regarded tongues as the functional equivalent of prophecy (this is
important to note, as it helps shape

The purpose of this case is to illustrate the importance of understanding cost behavior in calculating
the profit/contribution of the Craddock Cup. Within this context, the case asks whether the tournament
should be continued, expanded or dropped. In addition, the case provides a vehicle to discuss
allocation procedures and the concept of sunk costs. Finally, the case furnishes an opportunity to
develop cost volume profit analysis within the context of relevant costs and revenues.
Questions:
1. In determining whether to keep or drop the Craddock Cup, review in detail the overhead expense

After adding an additional 32 teams to the tournament schedule, the relevant revenues including t
shirts, concessions, and soccer clinics doubled while the corporate contribution revenue remained the
same. This brought anticipated revenue for the field of 64 teams to $85,680. The relevant expenses
that don t change include the tournament registration with the YSL, recruiters hotels, the face books,
marketing and advertising costs, as well as the salary of Renee Jantsen; these costs are either fixed
(salary, tournament registration fee, no additional marketing required) or unaffected by the
introduction of the 32 new middle school teams (no additional recruiters because they re uninterested
in the middle school players, face books aren t made for the middle school players). The relevant
expenses that do change include the cost of the t shirts, concession, the soccer clinic, the player
insurance, referees, and trophies; all of these are variable costs, and thus double when the amount of
competing teams doubles. There is also a new cost for the rental of the 6 additional fields from the
local school necessary to host 64 teams (($150/field + $60 goalposts/field) * 6 fields * 2 days=
$2,520). All of those costs add up to $69,046 for our total expenses category. Using our new revenue

Intra And Inter Generational Equity
INTRAAND INTER GENERATIONAL EQUITY IN THE ANTHROPOCENE
Introduction
Anthropocene era is minuscule compared to geologic era but has already made huge impact upon
world s ecology and physical resource. Creating and maintaining some mechanism to prevent runaway
consumption and misuse of resource is paramount to ensure justice and equity among population of
present as well as future generation. Without such mechanism, people tends to become self centered
and they act without any regard for others; creating imbalance in resource use and social order within
space time continuum.
Intra generational equity deals with equity and justice issues within present generation, while inter
generational equity is about ensuring equity and justice among generations without any concomitant
presence on Earth.
Intra generational equity
Munasinghe (2007) described intra generational equity perfectly as an interrelating function of
economic and social equity.
Figure: Sustainable Development Triangle (Source: Munasinghe, 2007)
From Economic perspective, although Panzer (1978) introduced Pareto Efficient Egalitarian
Equivalent Allocation (PEEE), which theoretically works quite well with fair and efficient resource
allocation and production economies while having excellent Rawlsian maximin properties as well;
real life scenario is dominated by capitalism. Present economic sustainability concept tries to
maximize income flow while preserving stock of assets or capital as much as possible.

Naval Athens and the Rise of Athenian Democracy Essay
There is no coincidence that the rise of Athenian Democracy goes chronologically hand in hand with
the rise of the Athenian Navy. Following the defeat of the Persians by the Greeks, Athens naval
successes allow it to surpass the previous naval power of Corinth; create the Delian league to fund and
support this navy; and eventually ruffle enough feathers with their fellow Hellenic neighbours that
they inspire the Peloponnesian war. Overall their naval reputation and intimidation comes from the
skill of the men who maneuver and command the ships, and the tool they use to wield their power, the
Athenian trireme. By looking at the design of the trireme, and the work and numbers put both into the
ship and the men that drive it, hopefully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
TRIREMES AND SHIPBUILDING
Triremes were unfortunately had to make stops on shore nightly whenever possible, because they ship
needed to dry out and the crew would be given time to rest and eat without being confined to the
smaller space available in the trireme (Jordan 1975). This was not always the case though; there is a
recalling of a time when a trireme did have to sail through the night, when one ship had to catch up to
the trireme headed to Mytilene (Jordan 1975). This type of travel was possible with a trireme, but it
would sail slightly slower since men had to take turns rowing, eating barley cakes and wine
(Thucydides 1996)(3.49.4), and sleeping, since they had not enough room for everyone to take a break
at once. Another example is when they couldn t anchor at Pylos, men took their meals on shore in their
turn (4.26.3)(Thucydides 1996). This would not have done any harsh damage to the ship in small
amounts, but if it were to travel this way consistently there would be definite problems with ship
maintenance.
To actually build a trireme, it consisted of a number of different types of resources and uniquely
skilled laborers. The ship was built shell first , meaning the side planks were constructed before laying
in the backbone , keel,

Future And Future Of Implants
Future of Implants
When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: I expect
that it will expand. He explained that current DBS technologies are seeing expanding indications for
more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new domains of brain
implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole field of brain computer
interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic limbs). This is very promising,
and some examples are already making it to real world application. Additional implants designed to
improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The future of those is less certain, but I suspect they
will improve and start to see practical application as time goes on [Marko].
One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size; nanoscale
implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased longevity so that
there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With continued research and
development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the Blue Brain Project, implants
will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This is extremely important, for
millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them by a disease.
Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep

Mommy Makeover Essay
A mommy makeover is a plastic surgery trend that helps to reverse the effect pregnancy has on your
body. After one pregnancy, some women naturally return to their pre pregnancy figure, but many
women don t especially after two or three children. Breasts begin to lose volume and sag, the abdomen
that is stretched during pregnancy becomes loose and doesn t tighten even after rigorous exercise.
Some fat deposits are also very difficult to get rid of even with strict dieting and exercise. The remedy
for all of the above is a mommy makeover.
There are five main treatments included in a typical mommy makeover, including an abdominoplasty
or tummy tuck, breast enhancement or augmentation, liposuction to remove fat, skin tightening and
cellulite removal. During your consultation with our specialist, you can ... Show more content on

A tummy tuck tightens the muscles in your abdomen and removes excess skin. There are several
levels of tummy tuck, including a full abdominoplasty, a belt lipectomy, a small incision
abdominoplasty and a reverse abdominoplasty. Our specialist will help you choose the one that will
give you the best results.
Breast augmentation may be a breast lift or breast implants. For some women, a breast lift is all it
takes to restore their breasts to their original position. It involves raising the breast and repositioning
the nipple. For other women, breast implants are the best way to restore volume and make the breasts
look younger and fuller. Implants may be recommended to restore the original size and firmness or to
make the breasts a little larger than they were before pregnancy.
Liposuction can remove fat, but it does not treat loose or stretched skin that may be left behind after
the fat is removed. This is the main reason liposuction is typically used along with a tummy tuck. The
combination of these procedures is the most effective way to make the abdomen and waist line tight

Worm Lab
Introduction Earthworms have light receptors that act like their eyes, and can tell when they are in the
dark versus in the light. Their nerves can detect light, vibrations, and even some tastes, and the
muscles of their bodies make movements in response. They breathe through their skin. Air dissolves
on the mucus of their skin, so they must stay moist to breathe. If worms dry out, they suffocate.
(Journey North,2017) Worms are decomposers and break down the soil. They are helpful in gardens to
mix around the soil. Knowing these facts, this experiment tested their response to the stimulus of a
flashlight. The experiment was ran so there can be a deeper understanding of how worms are in the
wild. Answering questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We hypothesized that the worms would move faster as the light increased. When looking at the
behavior chart, you can tell that not only they moved slower as the light increased, they also showed
signs of early paralysis. When the light was dark, the first worm moved faster and further than the rest.
Worm #1 stayed with the barrier and wasn t bothered by the light. Worm #2 moved diagonally from
the light as if it were blind. Worm #3 did not move until after 60 seconds. Worm #4 moved faster
towards the 4 inch mark then stopped and turned back to start line. The data provided shows that the
hypothesis was wrong.
Conclusions
Unlike what was predicted, the worms moved slower each time the light power increased. When the
worms were exposed to the bright lights, that replicated the sun. When worms are in the sun for too
long, their skin begins to dry out and they become paralyzed and die. (Journey North, 2017). It can be
theorized that when the worms saw the flashlight, they were stunned, and/ or thought they were in
danger and that is why they moved slower. During the experiment, the light was moved as to follow
the worm, next time the experiment is performed, the light should stay stationary. Additionally, there
needs to be more certainty that a different worm was used in each

The first indication that Pecola sees is Mr. Yacobowski s eyes. They almost seem to have difficulty focusing on her and more importantly, have an absence of human recognition. This hyperbole, and moment is when Pecola realizes that people don t all think the same, but all have their own perceptions. Pecola cannot escape the preconceived notions and stereotypes associated with her skin color, despite her dynamic and emotional personality. Furthermore, the scene when Mr. Yacobowski could not see Pecola s point of view and see her view literally and metaphorically demonstrated the difference between the two. While he could literally not see what she was pointing at, he figuratively also could not see from her point of view as he was a white immigrant man while Pecola is a child, black, and a girl. This is the first example of how cultural norms and values begin to shape Pecola s perception of both herself and her world. Although sometimes he does try to view the world as others do, but maybe that is too late for him to do. Before his execution, the Chaplain comes to try to make him believe in the faith, pray for forgiveness but he refuses how he refused the magistrate. He does not think it is a necessary thing for him to do. He does not support the idea of forcefully believing something. At the very end of the novel he says, For all to be accomplished, for me to feel less lonely, all that remained to hope was that on the day of my execution there should be a huge crowd of spectators and that they should greet me with howls of execration (Camus, 75). The quote is said by Meursault as he feels that he deserves the disdain of the society because he is different from others. Literary element tone is noticeable in this quote as it shows the change of the emotion of Meursault. He does not think the same way as the people in his society does. Yeats: Leda and the Swan In the poem Leda and the Swan , William Butler Yeats retells the story of the Greek god Zeus taking on the body of a swan to rape an innocent mortal, Leda. Yeats was mesmerized by the unique relationships between mortals and gods in ancient stories; this is what triggers his urge to write a poem about this tale. Yeats includes many references to ancient Greek mythology. He expects readers to know the background on this Greek history when reading through the poem to get a full understanding. He also uses his words to make a strong impact on the readers minds. The themes in this poem are very diverse, but the ones of beastiality, wordplay and Greek history are most effective. Yeats assumes that the readers know about the Greek myth of Zeus, sky and weather god, taking the form of a swan to violate Leda, Aetolian princess who later becomes a famous Spartan Queen. The opening lines start off presumably in Leda s perspective when he states, A sudden blow (Yeats 1), meaning that the Swan harshly approaches Leda and knocks her off her feet. We now can assume that the swan is larger than normal for it to have such extreme power to induce a great deal of force onto an unexpecting woman. In line 4, He (Yeats 4) is written for the first time so readers now know that the swan is of male nature; this explains the large size and strength of the swan. In the following stanza, through the first line Yeats chooses the word vague (Yeats 5) to describe how Leda is so terrified and disoriented when being violated by the swan. This can lead the reader to wonder if Leda could have even prevented the violation? The answer is clear, it would be incredibly absurd that she could have. • 15. Upton Sinclair s A Matter Of The Stomach A Matter of the Stomach The Jungle missed its mark. According to Upton Sinclair, he aimed at the public s heart, but by accident he hit it in the stomach. The societal and governmental reforms called for in The Jungle were for an improvement in workers conditions, adjustment in the corrupt systems of law enforcement and the legal systems, and for either a socialist revolution or the dismantling of capitalism; however, despite Sinclair s intentions, he was largely unsuccessful in bringing any of these changes up to the priority of the public. The novel follows the story of Jurgis Rudkus, a Lithuanian immigrant who came to America with his fiancé and her relatives in hope of obtaining a life of success and wealth with the woman he loved. He soon found that it was very difficult to support a large family with his salary as a shoveler of guts, making a meager seventeen and a half cents an hour as he worked from seven in the morning until seven at night. There was poor sanitation at the meatpacking factory, as workers swarmed around coughing up germs laden with tuberculosis and weren t provided with adequate means for relieving themselves or cleansing their hands. ... The more subtle mentioning of the essentially socialist newspaper Appeal to Reason was a less direct push towards encouraging a new way of order in America. Although how did sounds start and what were some major advancements in the world of sound cinema? The introduction of sound to cinema began by a process known as Phonofilm, created by a man named Lee de Forest and Theodore Case in 1923. The Phonofilm, which recorded synchronized sound directly onto film, was used to record a variety of entertainment including vaudeville acts, musical numbers, political speeches and opera singers. Unfortunately, this sound film didn t last long because it was overshadowed by the sound on disc, later named the Vitaphone. The Vitaphone was developed by Western Electrics Bell Laboratories and quickly acquired by Warner Bros Company in April of 1925. The Warner Brothers film Don Juan, directed by Alan Crosland, which utilized the first system with synchronized music score and sound effects, first showcased the Vitaphone. Using the Vitaphone, Warner Brothers went on to produce over 100 short films during the mid 1920 s. In 1927, The Jazz Singer was released, which was essentially a silent picture with Vitaphone score and the occasional episodes of synchronized singing and speech. Although the Vitaphone seemed like a revolutionary concept opening a whole new market of cinema, it became apparent that recording on film would be much more convenient. • 21. Double In Gothic Literature Analysis In literary criticism, the term double is defined as literary device that is used to directly compare, and contrast, the familiar with the strange. Often, doubles are used in pieces of literature to examine character traits, both positive and negative, as they are easier to identify and analyze when presented in two different lights. Another, perhaps more identifiable, word for double is doppelganger. The word doppelganger means look alike, or more literally, double walker. Doubles are meant to bear striking physical similarities, if they do not look exactly identical. Often meeting one s double brings about a certain realization of self. • 22. The Day Dreamers The Day Dreamers Have you ever wondered why so many students at City High are sluggish and lethargic? Are they just lazy and unmotivated? No, most of them probably suffer from lack of sleep, caused by biological clocks that are set to a different schedule than their classes. Teenagers have a physiological need to stay up later and sleep longer than pre adolescents, yet the daily schedule of the school runs oblivious to this. At City High students usually have to get up a little before 6:30, yet it is only natural for teenagers to get up later in the mornings. According to Mark Mahowald, MD, director of the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center, (Adolescents ) biological clocks program them to go to sleep late too late to get an adequate amount of sleep before the next school day begins (qtd. In Lamberg). Because he believes that most high schools open too early, he is leading a campaign to move the start of high school to 9 a.m. in Minneapolis. Puberty causes teenagers to go to sleep an hour later than when they were younger, according to Dr. Mary Caraskadon, director of chronobiology and sleep research at Bradlet Hospital in Rhode Island (Lamberg). In contrast to this law of nature, U 32 students have to go to school about an hour earlier than elementary school students in the same school district. Fairy tales take the everyday world that we live and paint them in a light that allows us to offset what is going on in our world today, or to restore the visions that we have of our lives. This was not always the case though; there is a recalling of a time when a trireme did have to sail through the night, when one ship had to catch up to the trireme headed to Mytilene (Jordan 1975). This type of travel was possible with a trireme, but it would sail slightly slower since men had to take turns rowing, eating barley cakes and wine (Thucydides 1996)(3.49.4), and sleeping, since they had not enough room for everyone to take a break at once. These include the whole field of brain computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic limbs). • 32. Worm Lab Introduction Earthworms have light receptors that act like their eyes, and can tell when they are in the dark versus in the light. Their nerves can detect light, vibrations, and even some tastes, and the muscles of their bodies make movements in response. They breathe through their skin. Air dissolves on the mucus of their skin, so they must stay moist to breathe. If worms dry out, they suffocate. (Journey North,2017) Worms are decomposers and break down the soil. They are helpful in gardens to mix around the soil. Knowing these facts, this experiment tested their response to the stimulus of a flashlight. The experiment was ran so there can be a deeper understanding of how worms are in the wild. Answering questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We hypothesized that the worms would move faster as the light increased. When looking at the behavior chart, you can tell that not only they moved slower as the light increased, they also showed signs of early paralysis. When the light was dark, the first worm moved faster and further than the rest. Worm #1 stayed with the barrier and wasn t bothered by the light. Worm #2 moved diagonally from the light as if it were blind. Worm #3 did not move until after 60 seconds. Worm #4 moved faster towards the 4 inch mark then stopped and turned back to start line. The data provided shows that the hypothesis was wrong. Conclusions Unlike what was predicted, the worms moved slower each time the light power increased. When the worms were exposed to the bright lights, that replicated the sun. When worms are in the sun for too long, their skin begins to dry out and they become paralyzed and die. (Journey North, 2017). It can be theorized that when the worms saw the flashlight, they were stunned, and/ or thought they were in danger and that is why they moved slower. During the experiment, the light was moved as to follow the worm, next time the experiment is performed, the light should stay stationary. Additionally, there needs to be more certainty that a different worm was used in each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The retina first layer is made up of rods and cones cells it location is a back of the where it takes light from the rod and cons and turns it into signals then gives it of to the optic nerve. The retina in my opinion is one of the most important parts of the human eye because if there no rentia the signals can be made and signals won t be transported to the brain. The cornea is a layer outside of the eye which covers the pupil and iris. The cornea plays a big role because it like a shield to the human eye and it also controls how much light energy is entering the eye. Another why cornea is important is because when incoming light hits the cornea it allows the lens to bend the and introduce it to the other parts of the human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Physician Assistant Personal Statement 1. I hereby express my intent to compete for consideration into the Interservice Physician Assistant Program. I graduated from University of Ghana with a combined major in Information Science and Sociology and an overall GPA of 3.2. I am also currently enrolled in Organic Chemistry I w/lab and Genetics to improve my science GPA of 3.6. I will complete these classes well in advance before the program start. 2 My breakthrough moment in understanding the critical impact Physician Assistant play on the health of troops and their family came when my son, Zain, was unexpectedly diagnosed with Global developmental delay, feeding disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder. During this life changing experience for my family, I developed profound gratitude for the quality of care and collaborative effort from the Developmental pediatrician and Physician Assistant with a sense of compassion. Each treatment encountered was thorough, comprehensive and encouraging and importantly relatable to how family health fit into mission accomplishment on the battlefield. I am convinced, without a doubt, this family centered care was instrumental in completing my annual rotation at National Training Center (NTC) in preparation for deployment.
