Sandro Miller (American, b. 1958) An accomplished commercial photographer, Sandro was inspired at a young age by the work of Irving Penn. After starting his career in 1980 as an assistant to photographer David Deahl, Sandro began his own practice and for the past 25 years, has pursued a particular interest in photographing people. Although he often relies on extensive research to prepare for a shoot and maintains a sophisticated level of control over the lighting, Sandro takes a fluid approach to portraiture, responding attentively to his subjects rather than orchestrating preconceived staging. Sandro has photographed countless national advertising campaigns and created individual portraits of celebrities, including John Malkovich, Gary Sinise, Michael Jordan, and Dwayne Wade. In 2011 he was presented the Saatchi & Saatchi Best New Director Award for Butterflies at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In 2016 he won the International Motion Art Award at the annual AI-AP Big Talk event. In 2014 and 2015 he was honored with the Lucie Foundation’s International Photographer of the Year Award.
