He is one of the richest men in the world, so it is no wonder that no expense was spared for his beloved daughter's wedding this week. The Sultan of Brunei threw his sixth daughter with his ex-wife, Princess Fadzillah Lubabul, a magnificent seven-day celebration, with the beautiful bride borrowing incredible jewellery from the royal collection of her step-mother, the Queen of Brunei.

36-year-old Princess Fadzillah is a Kingston University graduate (she has a degree in international studies) and is the ninth of the Sultan's 12 children with two of his wives. Her mother, Hajah Mariam, was married to the Sultan from 1982-2003, with the couple having four children.

One of Fadzillah's siblings is 30-year-old Prince Mateen, an Instagram star considered one of the world's most eligible bachelors. Of the wedding, he wrote on Instagram, 'Congratulations to the newlyweds. I’m so happy for the both of you. Big love to my beautiful sister.'

Another of her brothers, Prince Azim, tragically died in 2020 of an unknown illness. He was known for being an international jet-setter, regularly photographed partying with the likes of Mischa Barton, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

Little is known about the princess's new husband, Awang Abdullah Nabil Mahmoud Al-Hashimi (although local media refer to him as a ‘handsome foreigner’).

The proceedings kicked off on 16 January, with a blessing from the Sultan. The religious aspect of their nuptials took place on Thursday at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, finishing with a 17-gun salute. Then, on Sunday, the marriage was celebrated with a party at the palace, with the Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja ceremony.

The Sultan's first wife, and Brunei's Queen, has been married to the royal since 1965. It was her expansive jewellery collection that the princess borrowed her wedding trousseau from, including her diamond tiara and a pearl and diamond necklace. The tiara features large pearl-shaped diamonds, and was also worn at the wedding of Princess Majeedah in 2007.
