Earth, Wind & Fire in Concert

The word gets thrown around far too frequently these days, but in the case of Earth, Wind & Fire it genuinely applies: This band is legendary. From the mystical elements of their name to their profound and lasting influence on contemporary pop music to their litany of hits spanning the latter decades of the 20th century, EWF have achieved status beyond the merely mortal. Even with the passing of founder and lead vocalist Maurice White in 2016 the group live on, bringing their uplifting, body-moving blend of R&B, funk, disco, pop, and jazz to several generations of fans.

Their latest tour begins when EWF headline opening day of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest in a massive party for the iconic festival's 50th anniversary. From there, EWF travel across the U.S. and Canada, performing at amphitheaters and arenas from coast to coast and wrapping up with a pair of shows at the scenic Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery outside Seattle.

The crew is 11 members strong and includes original members Philip Bailey on vocals and percussion, Verdine White on bass and vocals, and Ralph Johnson on drums and vocals, plus a three-piece horn section and a host of young, talented players. Their stage show remains potent, featuring sophisticated group choreography, stunning instrumental interplay, and eye-popping visuals. You very well might not sit down.

Earth Wind & Fire Background

The Earth, Wind & Fire story begins with Maurice White. As a kid growing up in Memphis in the 1950s, White went to school with a young Booker T. Jones, and the two began performing their first tunes together. White moved to Chicago for college and fell in with an Afrocentric artistic crowd, playing as a session drummer for Chess Records and performing at the South Side's Afro-Arts Theater with a funk group called The Pharaohs.

His musical ambitions took him to Los Angeles, where he put together a band that included his brother Verdine on bass plus a few more Chicago transplants as well as local phenoms. Earth, Wind & Fire began releasing acclaimed albums from the start, but it wasn't until the mid-'70s that they charted their first hits, No. 1s like "Shining Star," "Getaway," and "September."

Over the years, they've won four Grammys out of 12 nominations, including a 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award, and the band's lineup has changed but their sound has never wavered. After five decades of soulful music, Earth, Wind & Fire's message of peace, unity, and celebration is now more necessary than ever.

Earth, Wind & Fire on Tour

Grammy Award-winning, legendary artists Carlos Santana and Earth, Wind & Fire embark on a North American tour. A continuation of 2019's Supernatural Now tour for Santana, the Miraculous Supernatural 2020 Tour marks the first time these two powerhouses share the stage in the U.S. The Live Nation-produced outing kicks off June 19th in San Diego and makes stops in Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Toronto, and more before wrapping August 29th in Tampa.

Earth, Wind & Fire is one of music's most celebrated musical forces in history with an iconic music catalogue that has been the soundtrack of millions of lives around the world. They were the first African American R&B group to receive the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor in 2019. Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson continue the legacy of the band with career achievements that include nine Grammys, one being a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. EWF's music catalogue of singles and albums have tallied hundreds of millions of streams and sales worldwide and forever changed the history of music.

Earth, Wind & Fire! They're the best

    by bl52 on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

Mountain Winery was a wonderful place to see Earth, Wind and Fire. From the city lights sparkling down the hill, to the stars above and the incredible energy from the stage this was the best night ever. I challenge anyone to just sit and listen to the concert...you can't... you must dance! I can't wait for next year. The band encouraged the audience to "sing along". No encouragement was needed, people know the words and love to participate.

Why oh why did they have to start playing over an hour late? Totally ruined my evening!!! Music was great but did not enjoy wasting my time waiting on them, of course no explanation was given!!!!

    Earth, Wind & Fire awesome

by Anonymous on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

can't believe I've missed out on seeing them for all these years, they still have a lot of energy for a group that has been together for nearly 40 years. Philip Bailey can still hit those high notes, they were very engaging with the audience, way to go!

    EW&F - disappointing!

by Funtime on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

I am a n EW&F fan who attends at least one of their concerts a year so I know that they can put on an amazing show that'll rock the entire house. They were a shadow of themselves. Did I go to the wrong concert??! :( They've changed their sets and kinda lost the audience w/ unknown songs & instrumentals. Please, just play your tried & true as that is what the audience wants and expects. Felt ripped off. (Btw, I saw them in SoCal in March and they were GREAT!)

If you want to dance the night away, an Earth, Wind & Fire concert is for you!! These guys know how to jam!! It's so great to see so many different instruments and musicians jamming and doing their thing! You can tell they are really having a lot of fun and can get the audience on their feet dancing. It was a beautiful night out at the Mt. Winery and we couldn't have asked for a better show!!

    BEST CONCERT EVER

    by KikiB2000 on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

Earth Wind & Fire & the Mountain Winery are amazing. The concert was high energy in a venue which was intimate. Can't think of a moment where I wasn't either singing the song or on my feet dancing. The evenings close started with my hands down absolute favorite EWF song. . . SEPTEMBER!!! followed by Let's Groove. . . I hated to see it end. . . ALL GOOD!!!

Earth Wind And Fire was AMAZING.

by Constancem on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

The concert was probably a once in a lifetime experience for me and it was wonderful. HOWEVER, the opening comedienne was awful. I am not sure how she was relevant to the musicians.

These entertainers still have their original sound. The voices have not changed, despite all the years. Philip Bailey's range remains unbelievable.

    Earth, Wind, Fire and ENERGY!

by pterri on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

Earth, Wind and Fire are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and last night at the Mountain Winery they showed why. They played all their favorites, with nine other very talented musicians, and had the audience up in their chairs after only a couple of numbers. The band not only played great, they were in constant motion on stage, dancing, running, and changing various instruments as the song demanded. It was an audio and visual performance not usually seen by a band with 40 years experience. One of the better concerts I have seen at the Mountain Winery in all the years I have been going there (since about the time Earth, Wind and Fire got together).

Sorry Guys... You Didn't Cut It

by TinaBear on 9/1/10Mountain Winery - Saratoga

I saw EW&F in Colorado at Red Rocks two years ago. That was one of the BEST concerts I had ever been to. Last night, at Mountain Winery, I would have to say I was a little disappointed. In Colorado, we didn't sit down at all... last night, we were confused... should we stand?should we sit? should we take a nap???? We had fun... but probably wouldn't see them again, at least not in this venue.

So much fun! This group gives a polished, high energy performance. They can still connect with their audience and everyone is dancing and having fun. The founding members are true musicians and entertainers and Philip Bailey's 5 octave voice if anything has gotten better over the years. Don't miss the chance to see these guys..

    EWF still got it!

by Aprildiamond on 8/31/10Maryhill Winery & Amphitheater - Goldendale

Earth Wind and Fire came on stage with Boogie Wonderland and everyone got up to dance! The audience was hopping the enter 95 minutes of the performance, which included an excellent light show. The music was wonderful as they performed their greatest hits of the past 40 years. Families and people of all ages enjoyed this wonderful event!
