Bengaluru: Karnataka’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has been recognised as the best airport at arrivals across the globe to provide a “memorable and seamless experience”. The Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards 2023 gave the recognition after examining a total of 37 airports from the Asia-Pacific and four from the Middle East.
The Bangalore airport shared the honour with two other airports — the Zayed International Airport – Terminal A in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala.
The ACI recognised 31 airports overall. There were 27 airports from Asia-Pacific, and four from the Middle East, according to a report by The Hindu.

ACI Recognises 6 Indian Airport

Authorities identified six Indian airports, including Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. These airports were recognised as the best airports with over 40 million (4 crore) passengers in the Asia-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad got recognition in the category of catering 15 to 25 million passengers (1.5 - 2 crore) in the Asia-Pacific region. Chandigarh airport, on the other hand, appeared as the best airport in the 2 to 5 million passengers (20 - 50 lakh) category in the Asia-Pacific region.
The authorities stressed that the airports in the Asia-Pacific regions made effective efforts to make the passengers' experience better even after the pandemic affected the region badly. According to him, airports in the region continued to thrive with the effective use of technology and workforce.

Asia-Pacific Region Thrive Despite Taking The Worst Pandemic Hit

Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East said, “Although the Asia-Pacific region has been the hardest hit by the pandemic, airports in the region have invested significantly in technology, human resources, and infrastructure to ensure that passengers continue to have a memorable and seamless experience”.
ACI informed about the ASQ Programme, which was developed in partnership with leading travel technology company Amadeus. As per the authorities, the programme serves as the preeminent airport customer experience measurement and benchmarking programme at the global level.
Unlike other programmes in the aviation industry, ASQ has the approach to conducting live research through surveys administered directly to travellers at the airport. This successfully captures their satisfaction levels, ACI believes.
The ASQ programmes carried out multiple surveys, covering over 30 performance indicators across key elements of the passenger’s experience at the airport. The managements were reviewed on the basis of check-in procedures, shopping and dining offerings as well as ease of navigation.
“From the east to the west, airports in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, China, India, Oman, UAE and Jordan have excelled in providing a best-in-class service to their customers,” Stefano Baronci added.
