Teluk Intan is a town located along the banks of the magnificent Perak River. People who usually make their effort to come here only have one thing in mind: to visit the jewel of this town, the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan.
But for your information, there are also other heritage buildings and places of interest for lovers of history and they are all conveniently located around the town centre, making them easy to be visited on foot.
The leaning tower is synonymous with Teluk Intan. This pagoda-like eight-storey building was originally used as a water storage tower to supply water to the town area, besides storing water during drought season in case there was a fire.
The leaning tower was constructed in 1885 and stands 25.2 metres high.
It started to tilt four years after its completion due to the soft land structure it’s built upon, apart from the weight of water in the tank.
On top of this tower is a clock, which up until today still chimes every 15 minutes.
Today, the leaning tower no longer stores water and has become a prominent landmark and a major tourist attraction in Teluk Intan.
Other than the famous leaning tower, Teluk Intan is also known for its lobsters! Some of the places that you can visit to enjoy them are D’Tepian Sungai Restaurant and Restoran Udang Galah, Teluk Intan.
Foodies should also opt for the local Mee Rebus, a Malay noodle dish in a sweet potato-based gravy from Mastan Ghani Restaurant.
