Ludhiana, February 26

During a meeting with Kuldeep Singh Vaid, MLA, Gill constituency, Upkar Singh Ahuja, president, CICU, along with Jagtar Singh, president, Ludhiana Machine Tools Association, requested the legislator for early completion of the Halwara airport.

“Industry is facing problems due to non-effective airport in the region. Industrialists have to travel Chandigarh and Delhi for domestic and international flights. Even customers interested in visiting Ludhiana are refusing to travel due to lack of reliable air connectivity,” said Ahuja and Jagtar.

“The Sahnewal airport is operational with only one flight per day and that too is mid-day,” they added. “Only small aircrafts are operational causing lot of inconvenience to businessman of the region,” they said.

Meanwhile, Vaid assured Ahuja and Jagtar that the land required for the airport had been acquired and an airstrip was also available. Only terminal building was to be constructed, Vaid added. Halwara airport would be operational next year, Vaid said.
