The ancient town with a breathtaking night view of the waterfall is stirring someone's fantasy DNA
Far away, the street lights are bright
As if they were twinkling with countless stars
The stars in the sky are now visible
As if they were lighting up countless street lights
I imagine that in the misty sky
There must be a beautiful marketplace
What a magical place!!! The Furong Town under the night sky is just like the 'Heavenly Market' described by Guo Moruo. I can endlessly wander in my mind in this place.
The movie 'Furong Town' starring Liu Xiaoqing is about this place, and the 'Border Town' written by Shen Congwen is also nearby.
I happened to encounter the Xiangxi Mud Festival during my visit, with the grand stage set up in the Waterfall Bay beneath the waterfall. It was my first time seeing a water stage, which was quite special. The floating stage, the ethnic performances of the Tujia people, the carnival that combines modern technology with traditional culture, this immersive waterfall show with a mix of different times and spaces, and the feast for the eyes and ears with fireworks, lights, waterfalls, and neon lights on ancient buildings, is just so overwhelming! Under various installation lights, I even had the illusion of being in a scene from Cameron's Avatar, which was quite amazing.
Xiangxi has always given me an impression of mystery, and now it has an added touch of poetry. It turns out that a tourist destination with tradition and culture can also be so modern and romantic.
I suggest that other ancient towns roll up their sleeves and follow Furong Town's lead!
【Food tips:】
1️⃣ Rice tofu (a specialty of Liu Xiaoqing's character, sour and spicy, melts in your mouth)
2️⃣ Osmanthus fish (Xiangxi flavor, sour + spicy, a must-try)
3️⃣ Snail meat (also sour and spicy, suitable for drinking)
4️⃣ Bangye liquor (a specialty, goes well with snail meat)

6️⃣ Ginger candy (a specialty, can be a souvenir)
【Travel tips:】
1️⃣ The scenic area requires an admission ticket, valid for three days, 108r/person
2️⃣ It's a 10-minute drive from the high-speed rail station, just take a taxi (group tours are not recommended)
3️⃣ Be sure to wait for the lights to turn on in Furong Town, which will amaze you all night long, starting around 7:30
4️⃣ You can prepare clothes in warm colors and soft silk, ethnic costumes are even better, very photogenic (for photos, you can go to the 'In the Water Side' bar, both the 2nd and 5th floors are good, close to the waterfall for a full view)
5️⃣ Only walking is allowed in the scenic area, so don't stay inside if you have large luggage (it's not recommended to stay in the scenic area during peak season, and the accommodation near the waterfall will be very noisy)
6️⃣ Furong Town is very close to Fenghuang Ancient Town, just a 2-hour drive away, the bus station charges 80r/person, or you can ask the inn to arrange carpooling
Furong Town is a 2.5-hour drive from Zhangjiajie, which can also be arranged on the way
Very good, worth a visit. The scenery is beautiful, especially at night. Walking on the stone road and feeling the style of the ancient town. Here, you can enjoy the cultural attractions such as the swagger hall and the toast palace, and feel the unique charm of Tujia culture. The swagger hall is the place where Tujia people sacrifice their ancestors, and the Tusi Palace is the place where the toast office was, and these two attractions are one of the most representative ancient buildings in Xiangxi. In addition, there are many well-preserved ancient houses in the ancient Ming and Qing Dynasties, carved beams and painted buildings, exquisite and amazing, amazing architectural art and wisdom of the ancients.
An alternative town if Fenghuang town is too crowded. Furong is less than 30mins by high speed train from Fenghuang. i love the town and the waterfalls at night when the light lit up
Very worth a visit to the scenic spot, the whole town is built around the big waterfall, very shocking. The tickets for the scenic spot also include watching the performance, and I feel that the price/performance ratio is OK. Have the opportunity to bring friends over to see it again.
The biggest highlight of Furong Town is the waterfall tour at night. Eat the local special pork feet soup, drink a bowl of rice tofu in Liu Xiaoqing's movie, go to the waterfall night tour, the lights at night, several times better than the day, from the back of the waterfall, there is a water curtain hole in front of you, especially great!
