Dubrovnik, also known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, is just one of the destinations in Croatia, a small European country that has burst onto the tourism scene with its sunny vistas and over 1,000 islands and islets to explore. The city is located in the southern part of Croatia on the Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic Sea.

Dubrovnik is known for its public beaches, the Arboretum Trsteno, the Sponza and Rector's palaces, and the Franciscan Church and Monastery. It has also served as a filming site for the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, which has helped to massively increase tourism to the city, resulting in a busier airport. Many people also use the Dubrovnik Airport as a starting point to travel to the nearby countries of Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, or elsewhere in the Balkans. Despite Dubrovnik being one of the biggest tourist destinations in Croatia, its airport is only the country's third-busiest after Zagreb and Split.

Airport Code, Location, and Contact Information

Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is sometimes referred to as Čilipi Airport by locals for the name of the town in which it technically resides.

Know Before You Go

The airport is served by more than 30 European and international carriers, like Croatia Airlines, Turkish Airlines, American Airlines, and others. The terminal building is brand new and divided into three buildings: A, B, and C. It was recently rebuilt to increase capacity to two million passengers per year. Although it's a small airport, it is still very modern, clean, and easy to navigate. It can get busy sometimes, so grant yourself extra time for passing through security.

Dubrovnik Airport Parking

The airport offers 200 parking spaces and accepts cash and credit cards at the tolls. The first 15 minutes are free, but after that, you will be charged by the hour. After you park, make sure you keep your ticket in a safe place. If you lose your parking ticket you will have to pay a fairly large fee.

Driving Directions

To get to the airport from the Dubrovnik city center, get on Highway D8 and travel south along the coast toward Močići. Follow signs for the airport, which will also be posted in English.

Public Transportation and Taxis

If you are not renting a car and your hotel does not offer a shuttle service, there are a number of bus lines that you can use to travel from the airport to the Dubrovnik city center. Common drop-off points include the bus terminal and the city gate, as well as the ferry terminal, which is helpful if you are visiting any of the nearby islands. Bus tickets can be booked online or at the airport.

The taxi stand is located in front of Building B and rates will be posted in the terminal. Ride-sharing apps, such as Uber, are also available to get around Dubrovnik and are convenient for getting from the airport to the Old City.

Where to Eat and Drink

The airport doesn't offer much in the way of food with coffee shops as the main food source. These typically offer pre-made sandwiches, coffee, and a small selection of alcoholic beverages. You might also be able to find a snack at the newspaper and tobacco store, but your best bet is to eat something in town before heading to the airport.

Wi-Fi and Charging Stations

Wi-Fi is available at the airport, but you will have to pay for it unless you visit the business lounge where the Wi-Fi is complimentary. There are few charging stations throughout the gate areas, so if you a see a free wall outlet, grab it. If you really need to charge your device, you might get lucky and find something at one of the cafes.

Lounges

There is one business lounge at the airport, which can be accessed if you are a member of a lounge loyalty program, such as Priority Pass. The Airport Business Lounge offers free Wi-Fi and basic refreshments. It is located on the third floor of the international departures area past security. It's nothing fancy, but it's quiet and suitable for relaxing or getting some work done away from the busy gates.

Dubrovnik Tips and Tidbits
