Hello all, great thread oily! SNVI was one of M Paul Berliets “pet” projects, yet many of the vehicles were fitted with Deutz air cooled diesels. I met some of their people in Lyon on several occasions, and they were “proper” lorry people. Thanks again, Cheerio for now.

Ready for some more from the AEC centenary?

Hi Oilreader earlier this year I was in Morrisons supermarket restaurant at Shrewsbury which is built on part of the former Sentinal works site. When Morrisons build on iconic sites such as this they try to commemorate its important industrial heritage by placing photographs or murals etc showing the former products, this is also evident at their Leyland store built on the former Leyland Motors tank and Comet lorry factory site. Here are some pics from Shrewsbury. Note the replica Sentinel bus.

A neighbouring haulier had a four wheel Sentinel with underfloor engine and sliding cab doors, HD 44 model I think ? I recall circa 1964 delivering flour from Silloth to a bakery on the A6 at Clayton le Woods near Chorley accompanied by the Sentinel who also had 10 tons of flour in 10 stone bags. As was usual we assisted each other to unload both wagons. Interestingly the site looked over a minor road from Leyland to the A6 and was on Leyland Motors chassis test route which made for very entertaining viewing while unloading the flour. There were three Sentinels operating in ■■■■■■■ at this time two four wheelers and one six wheeler.
Cheers Leyland 600

Jimmy Wilkinson drove this Albion Chieftain of Powells Preserves delivering jam and collecting raw materials practically from new , I recall him working on Newcastle quay regularly in the mid 1960s. He went on to acquire the wagon for preservation in the 1970s and still rallys it locally.

Here are some photos I took last Sunday at Tain in Easter Ross last Sunday.
