“Mount Uhud is a mountain that loves us, and that we love.”

--Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Sahih Muslim, 1393.

(Above) The darker mountain in the back is Uhud. The smaller hill in the front, where people are standing, is Rumaah, where the Muslim archers stood during the Battle of Uhud more than 1400 years ago. This is a very common tourist attraction. Nearby is the graveyard where the martyrs from the Battle of Badr are buried, so people come here to pay their respects and walk in the footsteps of great people.

This photo is taken from a main highway in Madinah, one that connects many of the city's different boroughs (hayys). The building on the right looks like a school. Aren't the shadows on Uhud from the clouds just beautiful?

This part of Uhud has been turned into a family-friendly park. It's not as popular an attraction as Rumaah is, because Rumaah has more historical significance. It is, however, popular among the locals, who come here for picnics with friends and family. You can often see kids playing with stray cats, climbing the mountain, roller blading, or just being kids :)
