Trip Advisory

Today, Administrator Samantha Power arrived at the international humanitarian assistance hub in El-Arish, Egypt, to meet with local officials and Egyptian and international humanitarian organizations working to accelerate the pace of vitally needed assistance into Gaza. The Administrator accompanied an aid delivery of 36,000 pounds of food assistance and medical supplies airlifted, at USAID’s request, by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) from Amman, Jordan to El-Arish.

During her visit, the Administrator will reiterate the United States’ commitment to the protection of civilians, consistent with international humanitarian law, and the absolute necessity for humanitarian supplies crossing into Gaza to continue at, and exceed, the levels reached during the humanitarian pause.

The United States is working urgently to address dire humanitarian needs in Gaza. This assistance has included mobilizing more than $100 million in additional humanitarian assistance to civilians, airlifting more than 90,000 pounds of UN medical, winter, and food aid, and providing half a million pounds of emergency food assistance to help people affected by the conflict.

Today’s DOD flight departed from Amman, Jordan and included medical supplies to support Palestinians facing a decimated health system in Gaza, ready-to-use foods for displaced people, and winter clothes. The U.S. government thanks President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, and our Egyptian, Jordanian, and international partners, including the UN, for facilitating the delivery of these critical supplies to the people of Gaza.
