Osaka Itami Airport

40% VINCI Airports
40% ORIX Corporation
20% Other entities

End of contract (year):

2060

In 2015, VINCI Airports signed a concession contract to operate the Osaka and Kansai airports — an agreement that marked a major step in VINCI Airports’ expansion outside France.

Osaka Itami is one of the country’s most important airports. Built in an area susceptible to natural disasters, the aviation hub requires VINCI Airports’ international technical expertise and practical experience.

At the same time, the success of local tourism means that air traffic in the region continues to rise.

In 2020, VINCI Airports is confirming its long-term commitment to Japan alongside its Japanese partner Orix with the completion of the renovation project at Osaka Itami Airport.

OPENING UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES

An airport and a place for people

Osaka Itami has been continuously evolving over the last five years. Once just another stage of the journey, the airport has been redesigned and is now a genuine showcase for the region. It is a place for people in its own right — as much for travellers as for local residents. Over 30 restaurants and shops have opened as well as a brand new rooftop area, where passengers can relax and enjoy the view. Whether they are in a rush or have time to kill, the entire airport has been designed to offer them an exceptional experience.

A first in Japan, the new commercial areas inaugurated in 2020 are located in the commercial (post-security) area of the terminals. They have been designed based on the “walkthrough” concept, which guarantees 100% of visibility for 100% of the shops. Passengers will thus be able to walk around while shopping.

A champion of efficiency

In 2023, the Punctuality League 2023 report by OAG, named Osaka Itami as the world’s most punctual airport in 2022. This is the fourth time the airport has received this award since joining the VINCI Airports network.

Moreover, a new flow management concept called “walkthrough duty free” offers passengers a smoother journey while allowing them to see all of the duty-free shops.

A cleaner and innovative airport

The teams at Osaka Itami are working tirelessly to reduce their CO2 emissions. VINCI Airports’ efforts were rewarded with Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA).

In 2020, Osaka Itami also became Japan’s first major airport with groundwater treatment facility that helps the airport secure a water supply source in times of crisis.

Challenge Met

Airport infrastructure adapted to the future climate

Climate change presents a threat for infrastructure, which is why VINCI Airports has developed preventive measures specifically for the Osaka region.
Intelligent and resilient, these new structures are prepared for the risks associated with global warming.
