TikTok users, especially motorcycle enthusiasts, would know the name Haqiem Stopa. The TikToker is well known as an icon for Mat Rempits and his popularity amongst teenagers is growing by the day.
In fact, the TikToker was recently in the news after Deputy Minister of National Unity, Wan Ahmad Faysal Wan Ahmad Kamal made a comment calling him the icon of youth in motoring, which later drew flak from the motorsports community. Haqiem is known by social media users as a Mat Rempit TikToker, hence users are worried that this was glorifying the TikToker.

However, just as the debate has subsided, news of Haqiem’s invitation to give a talk at a school in Kuala Lumpur surfaced placing the TikToker back in the limelight yet again.
The invitation to give a talk at a school was issued by the Skilled Youth Project, a social service initiative launched under the Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Pekerja Berkemahiran (PKPB) or translated to National Organisation of Skilled Workers.
Haqiem gave a talk under the programme Cerita Orang Gagal (Stories of failed people). According to the organiser’s official Facebook page, Projek Belia Mahir, the topic was created to highlight bullying as a crime.
Needless to say, the video of Haqiem arriving at the school and the reaction he received while walking in have led social media users to question the purpose of the talk.
Some social media users are also calling on the Ministry of Education to take action as they believed that Haqiem’s status as a Mat Rempit would set a bad example to the students instead.
In case you’re wondering, the programme has not ended yet. Haqiem is scheduled to give another talk in a school in Petaling Jaya tomorrow (7.7.2022).
