Dedicated to promoting radio controlled flight. Our desire is to provide a safe and positive environment for people of all ages to learn about and participate in model flight.

• NO flying or spotting in any capacity while under the influence of alcohol, recreational drugs, or prescription medications that may affect or impair your judgment.
• NO alcohol or recreational drugs permitted on property

General Rules

• MANDATORY - To use the Winkler Wings - R/C Flying Club property, Pilots must be current members in good standing with MAAC and have paid their yearly club dues (you may fly a couple of times before getting a club membership).
• Be courteous to all
• Children must be supervised
• Pets must be on leash
• Family friendly club. No use of inappropriate language

General Safety Rules

• Winkler Wings - R/C Flying Club operates within 3nm of an aerodrome as listed in the Canada Flight Supplement. Winkler Airport (CKZ7) is located 2.65 nautical miles south of our modelling site.
• No flying will occur below the MAAC mandated weather minimum:
  • If cloud is present within 1000 ft. above the model flying area
  • A horizontal visibility minimum of 3 status miles around the flying area
  • If there are other obscuring conditions (fog, smoke, haze etc.) which could make spotting full-scale aircraft difficult.
• No flying will commence until half an hour after sunrise and will end a half hour before sunset. Night flying allowed only on special occasions with additional precautions.
• There must be a minimum of one Safety Spotter* who is responsible to actively scan the sky in 360 degrees for detecting and alerting pilots of any approaching full-scale aircraft.
  • Pilot stations are 10 ft. apart and 23 meters from the pit
  • Safety Spotter should be located beside or close behind the pilot
  • When any pilot or spotter spots a full-scale aircraft, they are to loudly announce it. ALL Pilots MUST acknowledge they heard the announcement and immediately descend to as low an altitude as possible and then land as soon as safely able.
  • Once full-scale aircraft is no longer a threat, pilots may resume flying.
  • No ambient noise permitted during model operations, which could interfere with the Safety Spotter* aural notifications
• All pilots and spotters need to be aware that periodically full-scale aircraft pass over the field flying at various altitudes.
  • Always practice “see and avoid” procedures.
• If there is any type of near miss or safety concern between a full-scale aircraft and our models, ALL FLYING SHALL cease immediately. The members involved will fill out an incident report and submit that to MAAC. Flying will not resume until we are given written permission by MAAC.
• Pilots must fly from a Pilot Station and fly East of the flight-line.
• Each pilot is responsible for understanding the limitations and associated rules for each of the categories of the aircraft they are flying, such as park flyer, FPV, 3D, sport, pattern, combat, racing, turbine, large model, giant scale, etc.
• Pilots must fly aircraft within the flight area, with Visual Line-of-Sight at all times or max lateral distance of 3000 ft., whichever is less.

Field Flight and Equipment Rules:

• Pilots using 72 MHz transmitters must post their frequency on the board.
• Unnecessary flying of any aircraft over the spectators, pit area, pilot stations, or parking area for any reason is prohibited.
• Enforce safety standards when violated.
• Announce intentions while flying.
• Maximum of 4 aircraft at one time or less if there are fewer Pilot Stations, unless Combat, Racing, etc.
• Students MUST fly with an instructor and buddy box system until the instructor believes the student is ready to fly solo. Club instructors assume no responsibility for the student's aircraft

Safety Spotter – means a person, 16 years of age or older, who is assigned the sole task of actively scanning the sky in 360 degrees, for purposes of detecting and alerting RPAS pilots of any approaching full-scale aircraft. While they do not need to be a MAAC member, that is preferred.
