Can Tho Airport is a brand new modern civil airbase that was opened at the beginning of 2011. The airport was originally an abandoned military airbase in Binh Thuy, Can Tho. It is also called Tra Noc Airport due to the close distance to Tra Noc territory.

Can Tho Airport has two floors with two main areas: the right flank from the main entrance is used for domestic departure and arrivals; whereas the left flank is for international flights.

At present, Can Tho Airport mostly hosts is mostly used domestic flights to and from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Phu Quoc (operated by Vietnam Airlines) and Con Dao (by VASCO Airlines). In the foreseeable future, more flights are scheduled to run between Can Tho and other major destinations such as Da Lat, Da Nang, Hue and Vinh.

Thanks to its latest renovation from 2006 to 2011, services for passengers in this airport is plentiful, from cafeteria, souvenirs or currency exchange to hotel booking and tourism information.

Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is located in Hai Chau, a county of Da Nang city, about 5km from the city center. Though this is the third biggest airport after Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) and Noi Bai International Airport (HAN), it is much smaller in size and volume of arrivals than the other two.

Da Nang International Airport was built in 1940 and served as an important military base until the Reunification in 1975. As of December 2011, the old airport base was closed and replaced by a brand new building nearby. The new airport currently in use contains two parallel runways with the length of approximately 3,050m each way, which can accommodate larger airplanes such as Boeing 747s, 767s, AirBus 330s, 340s or Antonov 124. With the capacity of six million passengers per year, the new airport has a lot more modern facility and services. The traffic volume in Da Nang International Airport is about 100 to 150 flights a day from more than 10 airlines. From Da Nang International Airport, it is easy to travel domestically to other destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Pleiku, Qui Nhon with Vietnam Airlines or Jetstar Pacific.

Along with the domestic airways, there are many international flights, mostly from South East Asia and East Asia, like Seoul – Da Nang (Korean Air and Asiana Airlines), Guangzhou – Da Nang (China Southern Airlines) or Singapore – Da Nang (SilkAir). The airport is expected to receive more flights from popular destinations in adjacent territories such as Hong Kong, Japan or Thailand in the near future.

The main airport that serves Hanoi and many surrounding Northern provinces is Noi Bai International Airport (HAN). The airport is located about 30km from city center, in the middle of a rice paddy field suburban area that once belonged to Vinh Phuc province.

Noi Bai is located 30kmnorth of Hanoi City Center. Travel time between Hanoi Old Quarter and Noi Bai Airport is about 1 hour or 45 minutes without traffic. For driving, you can reach the airport via Nhat Tan bridge or Thang Long bridge.

The first floor of the hall is arrival lobby. You can find currency exchange booths, airport taxi services and information booths on this floor.

The second floor has departure gates and check-in areas for domestic flights. Boarding gates from 2-5 is on the far left of the airport and boarding gates from 6-10 is on the far right. In the middle and near the elevator is the border police control door. The custom declaration form has been abandoned for all outbound travellers as of September 2010.

The airport top floor has several restaurants and bars that serve breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The food is decent and inexpensive but do not expect an international selection.

The T2 Hall was brought into use in early 2015 and serves all international routes. There are a total of 4 levels: first level being arrival hall, third level being departure hall and the second and fourth level hosting a number of food vendors. As you step down from an international flight, you will be passing through immigration office first - this is where you pick up your visa on arrival. If you already have a visa you can go straight to Customs, have your passport scanned and go to collect your baggage.

ATMs: There are a number of ATMs and currency exchange booth located on the first level of terminal 2. You can spot them easily near the entrance of the airport.

After a major renovation in early 2000s, Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) is currently the largest in terms of area and capacity airport in Vietnam. Along with Lien Khuong Airport (Dalat), Con Dao Airport (Con Dao), Phu Quoc Airport and several other local airports, Ho Chi Minh City Airport is under the management of Southern Airports Corporation (SAC), a state owned corporation.

The airport is located in Tan Binh district, about 8km North of the city center. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the center of the city from the airport.

The domestic terminal used to be the old International terminal with 62 check-in booths. It is easy to navigate your way around, especially with only 3 domestic airlines being active.

The new international terminal was officially put to use in 2007, welcoming tourists and business travellers from all over the world. International terminals also have many modern facilities such as restaurants, convenient stores and currency exchange booths.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to get from one terminal to another so if you have a transit in Ho Chi Minh City, you will not be in any hassle.

Hue Airport or Phu Bai Airport (HUI) is one of the main ports for the central part of Vietnam, alongside with Da Nang and Cam Ranh International Airports.

The airport is about 15 km from Hue city and takes about half an hour to get from the airport to downtown Hue. Phu Bai airport was formerly used by the French and the Americans as air force base, but it has been transformed to serve civilization purpose since 1975. Due to its small size, this airport is able to receive only medium-sized planes but in the future, large airplanes can land on its runways.

In 2011, Phu Bai international Airport was scheduled to close for repair and improvement in May and early June, so that all flights bound for Hue are temporary cancelled in 1 month. If you plan to travel during this period, fly to Da Nang and take a shuttle to Hue, which is a 3 hour trip.

Cam Ranh Airport is the 4th largest airport in Vietnam, located in Khanh Hoa province and 30km South of Nha Trang City. The airport was established by the US Army during the Vietnam War and used mainly for military purposes until 2004.

Cam Ranh Airport nowadays serve civil use, welcoming passengers from all over Vietnam to the famous beach city of Nha Trang. Most flights arriving in Nha Trang are from major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. There are also a limited number of international flights departing from Russia, including Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and Novosibirsk.

Like most other provincial airports in Vietnam, Nha Trang airport is small and easy to navigate. Its first floor is filled with ticket booth, money exchange stall, mall cafeterias and souvenir shops. The second floor has departure and arrival halls, where passengers' waiting hall are located. The food option is rather limited at this airport, therefore it is recommended that you have your main meals before leaving the city.

Van Don International Airport or Ha Long Airport is an airport in Vân Đồn District, Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam, home to World Heritage Ha Long Bay. It is located about 50 km (31 mi) away from Hạ Long and 20 km (12 mi) from Cẩm Phả. It is the first private airport in Vietnam, built and operated by Sun Group.

The new airport will dramatically improve access to Vietnam’s premiere tourist destination, Halong Bay. The Van Don Airport is a mere 50km from the famous turquoise bay with its limestone pillars.

Previously, travelers to Halong Bay would have needed to fly to the Noi Ba International Airport in Hanoi and then take a four-hour bus journey to the UNESCO world heritage site. After Van Don International Airport opens, visitors to Halong Bay will be able to fly directly to the airport. After arrival, Halong Bay visitors will then need to take an hour and a half bus or taxi ride to their destination. This short journey time is now possible due to the new Ha Long – Van Don expressway, linking Van Don Island with Halong Bay.

But arrivals at the new Van Don Island will also be able to make the most of other destinations in the Quảng Ninh Province. The province boasts a coastline of around 250km with truly stunning beaches such as those at Minh Chau and Ngoc Vung. The big hope in Vietnam is the development of the new airport will pave the way for turning Quảng Ninh Province into an international tourist destination.

Initially built by the French colonists as Moranc Airfield at Quản Long town, An Xuyên province (now Cà Mau City) with the runway of 400 m long and 16 m wide.

June 1962, Bureau of Aviation of the Republic of Vietnam rebuilt this airfield in an area of 91.61 hecta, the runway of 1050m x 30m, the apron 60m x 120 m and renamed it Quan Long Airport (Phi trường Quản Long).

This airport was used mainly for military purpose, serving helicopters, L19, OV10, Dakota, C130 and some other kind of fighters. In dry season of 1972, the runway and the apron were repaved with asphalt.

In April 1975, following the fall of Saigon, the airport was controlled by communist forces. From 1976 to 1978, this airport was used for military activities only.

On 30 April 1995, this airport revived the civil flight with an AN2 VF808. Civil services continued but with low profit. From 1997, the civil scheduled flight services suspended due to low traffic, only chartered flight remained. On 30 April 1996, the old terminal was renovated. In July of the same year, the airport was equipped precision instrument landing system NDB 500II and standby generator.

On 13 December 2003, the construction of the new terminal started. The terminal has an area of 1548m2, of which the floor area is 1548m2, the suspension floor is 878m2.

In 2004, this airport handled 398 aircraft movements with 8975 passengers, 41,583 kg cargo. In 2005, this airport served 791 aircraft movements with 24,324 passengers and 125,341 kg cargo.

The government of Vietnam approved a renovation planning for this airport, according to which the runway will be extended to 1900 m x 30 m, capable to handle 2 medium-sized aircraft at the same time, 150 passengers per hour or 200,000 passengers per annum by 2015. From 2015, another runway of 2400 m x 45 m will be built, capable to handle 4 medium-sized aircraft (like Airbus 320) at the same time with 300,000 passengers per annum.

A beautifully built yet scantily used, Dien Bien Phu Airport or Muong Thanh Airport (DIN) is the biggest airport in the Northwest mountain area of Vietnam. This was a former air base used by the French army in the Indochina War from 1945 to 1954 for transportation and bombardment. Nowadays, Dien Bien Phu Airport has been reconstructed to be an international airport in Dien Bien province.

The airport is mostly used for domestic flights from Hanoi, and Vietnam Airlines is the only airline to have airplane travel to this airport with the frequency of two flights per day.

Dong Hoi Airport is an airport located in Loc Ninh commune, 6 km north of Đồng Hới city, capital of Quảng Bình Province, in North Central Coast of Vietnam, about 500 km South-east of Hanoi by road. The facilities cover 173 ha, on a sandy area, by the coast of South China Sea. The runway approaches near the seashore and nearly parallel to the Highway 1A. The airport, like all civil airports in Vietnam, is owned and operated by Airports Corporation of Vietnam, a state-owned company under the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam that was founded when three companies operating airports in the north, the middle and the south of Vietnam were merged on February 28, 2012.

The airstrip was built unpaved by French colonists in 1930s to serve First Indochina War and was upgraded by North Vietnam as an airbase for Vietnam War. On 30 August 2004, the renovation (actually reconstruction) of this airport began and was scheduled to be completed in 2006 but not until May 2008 was it inaugurated. On May 18, 2008, the airport was officially put into operation with the first commercial flight from Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport.

As of March 2015, this is one of 4 commercial airports in North Central Coast, the others are Phu Bai International Airport (90 miles (172 km, 107 mi) south of Dong Hoi Airport) in Huế) and Vinh Airport (121 miles (197 km) north of Dong Hoi Airport) in Nghệ An Province, and Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hóa Province.

Phù Cát Airport was built in 1967 during the Vietnam War for the United States Air Force (USAF) by the American construction company RMK-BRJ. During the war, it was a major air base for the Republic of Vietnam Air Force and USAF. Until 1975, the airport was known as Gò Quánh Airport. The airport was one of the major sites for Agent Orange recharge besides Bien Hoa Air Base and Da Nang Air Base. Due to heavy activities involving dioxin during the war, the ground at the airport was polluted with toxic chemicals and cleanup efforts are still ongoing. After 1975, it was used for training purpose by the Vietnamese Air Force and subsequently developed into a mixed-use airport for both regional civic air transport and military activities in 1984 following the suspension of civic service at nearby Qui Nhơn Airfield. In September 1984, the airport served its first commercial flight.

On July 10, 2003, construction on a new 3,000 m2 (32,000 sq ft) passenger terminal for the airport started. The terminal was completed in June 2004. It has a capacity of 600,000 passengers per year with 2 airplane gates, 6 check-in counters and 2 conveyor belts. The airport handled 420,000 passengers in 2014 and held an average 46% annual growth in passengers. The airport served 1.5 million passengers in 2017.

On February 13, 2017, works started on the site of a new passenger terminal for Phu Cat Airport. This terminal, built on a cost of US$22 million, would have a capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year with room for expansion up to 2.4 million. The new terminal opened on May 3, 2018 and completely replaced the 2003-built terminal
